Sustainable & Cultural Journeys

Local Businesses

Why sustainable tourism business?  For starters, sustainability is becoming the new norm as many businesses around the world incorporate sustainability into their business DNA.  Sustainability is all about long-term strategic actions businesses can take and implement to ensure that their business positively impacts the environment and society.

As the number of socially responsible travellers grows, so does the need for tourism businesses to adapt to this demand and there is no time like now as the word’s concerns grow over climate change, over-tourism and ocean pollution to name a few.

I should add that the benefits of building a sustainable business brand go far beyond doing the right thing for the planet and people.  Customers, employees and investors are also placing a higher value on businesses that have sustainable practices.

If you own a tourism business and you are looking for guidance on building a sustainable brand, we welcome you to reach out to us on This email address is being protected from spambots. At Eco Island Travel we look for two main things:

(1) Tour operators and accommodations should have an existing sustainable travel policy to be vetted and once vetted and accepted onto the Eco Island Travel site, they must be able to show how their tour or accommodation makes a difference.   No sustainable policy in place?  Get in contact with us so we can assist you with developing a policy!

(2) Tour operators and accommodations should also be able to show how their business maximises its environmental, social and economic impact and how they minimise negative impacts.  This is important to Eco Island Travel as it will provide customers with the confidence to know that their booking is making a difference, crucial to whether they make a booking or not.  Not sure about how your business is making a difference?  Reach out to us for guidance on how your business can make a positive impact.

If your business meets the above criteria, your business will be eligible to become a member of Eco Island Travel.  An annual membership fee is applicable and there are several membership levels that you can join.

If you’ve read the section above and believe we could work well together, we would love to hear from you.  Contact us on This email address is being protected from spambots. Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.

Sustainability is no longer about doing less harm. It’s about doing more good.
